Vaginal Hysterectomy and Pelvic Floor Repair Surgery

A vaginal hysterectomy is performed when there is a prolapse of the uterus. A pelvic floor repair is suggested when a part of the vagina is prolapsing and causing bothersome symptoms.
A vaginal hysterectomy is an operation to remove the uterus through the vagina. One or both ovaries and fallopian tubes can sometimes be removed during the procedure, as well as the uterus and cervix, but your surgeon will discuss this at the time.
It offers many benefits over abdominal or laparoscopic procedures and overall fewer complications, shorter healing time, less pain, less scarring, a lower chance of infection, less risk of hernias, and faster return to activities. Also, a prolapsed uterus is easier to access via the vagina.
A pelvic floor repair is carried out when a part of the vagina is prolapsing and causing bothersome symptoms. A cut is made in the front and/or back wall of the vagina to allow the underlying supporting tissue to be identified. This tissue is then stitched to strengthen the support and prevent the prolapse from recurring. Sometimes a patch of tissue is sewn in to strengthen the repair to try to improve the chances of success and reduce the risk of problems with intercourse after the operation.
Everyone recovers differently
This depends on several factors: your health and fitness level before surgery, whether complications occurred during or after surgery, and the type of surgery performed. It is important to listen to your body and take time to rest. Do not try to push yourself too hard. Over the course of 4-6 weeks, your body will gradually heal, and your energy level will slowly rise to your normal level.
